Excerpts from Life on the Edge by Wendy D. Fambro

One of the advantages of having lived life on the edge is that the edge feels like home. Nice view, invigorating breeze, endless horizon - it’s a good place to stand and just breathe (are you listening stomach and head? Deep breaths…) Over the years, we have found ourselves here many times while trying to raise two children on the anemic salary of a minister and the tip jar offerings of a musician.

Apparently the ladies who generally pursued Miché did so in short skirts, leopard-print tank tops, low-slung belts and high heels. I, on the other hand, looked like I had just stepped out of “Petticoat Junction.”

The great thing about recording at home is that, since you’re not paying for studio time, you can take as much time as you need. The bad thing about recording at home is that you can take as much time as you need….

Of course, some of Miché’s stories are actually true.

Not only was it a mental and physical challenge, but a vocational one as well. To have to sit on the sidelines for a couple of years can be the death of a career in the music industry.

Biracial unions were still fairly uncommon and a surprising number of people felt free to offer their commentary on our decision.

Sure enough, in a very tidy statistical fashion, the longer his hair grew, the greater number of gigs he was able to get.

Miché has a multitude of lesser known skills and aptitudes…

Miché turns to me with an expression of laughing exasperation as he speaks into the phone: “I’m a musician, Mom.”
